Recurring Yeast Infections

Somewhere between 5 and 10% of women will develop a recurring yeast infection.  Some of the concomitant lifestyle factors that can cause this are as simple as the consumption of cranberry juice, or using bath products that are have too many chemicals in them (to deliver the nice scent, of course); or using sex lubricants or wearing tight-fitting clothing.

It is a good suggestion to dry your underwear out in the sun; also to cut down on using lubricants and wear cotton or silk instead of tights or those tight leather pants!

There are allergies that cause itching.  So if you get a lot of itching down under, it’s a good idea to check with your doctor, so that other possibilities may be discounted.

A quick summary of factors that could predispose you to getting a recurrent yeast infection are:

• Using antibiotics;
• if you have diabetes;
• if you are HIV positive;
• taking the “combination pill” which contains estrogen and progesterone;
• if you suffer from a disease where steroids need to be taken.
• Pregnancy

It’s also recommended for your partner to be checked out as well, as men can have the fungus but not manifest any symptoms.  Sad to day, sex may have to go on the back-burner at least during the period of treatment of the recurring yeast infection.

Symptoms of recurring yeast infections

Include back pain, joint aches, impotence, urinary disorders, being short of breath, pain in the hands and vaginal odor may be symptoms of a yeast infection recurring.

Treatment for recurrent yeast infections

There are different treatments depending on the diagnosis, so that’s why it’s best to be correctly diagnosed at the outset.  If your doctor suggests using antifungal medicine, this may be something like Fluconazole.  Diflucan is a well-known brand name. Ketoconazole was formerly prescribed, and had some success, but can damage the liver, so is not very widely used.  There are also side effects possible with antifungal medicine, but usually only with multi-doses.

You are probably better off trying a good natural cure for yeast infection, particularly if you know oral antifungal medicine may affect your liver.
