Yeast infection in toddler?
My daughter is very prone to yeast infections and/or diaper rash. We have tried everything – cloth diapers, huggies, homemade baby wipes, canesten, etc. But the infections keep coming back.
Canesten seems to work, but the infection keeps coming back. I also give her acidopholus 2x/day every day.
Last night, it was so bad it looked like a 3rd degree burn. She wouldn’t get into the tub so I had to give her a shower.
Any suggestions? Other than take her to the doctor, I already know that.
No, we don’t add anything to the bath water except the Aveeno baby oatmeal stuff that’s supposed to help diaper rash! This has been a recurring problem for about a year now.

Been there. Gotta hate the yeast rash. We do acidophilus for the babies, too. Go ahead and give it a fw extra times today. And amp up the yogurt when you see the redness start. When you’re catching it before it gets bad, there’s a few things to try- sometimes we have success with them, sometimes we don’t- yeast is a formidable foe. Take the acidophilus and mix it with water, making a thick paste. In desperation I have used plain yogurt. Spread it on and keep it on.
I’m assuming you’re doing naked naps? I dislike that (particularly with my far-aiming son) but in the end the air is the best thing to head it off and heal it- just lay down a waterproof pad in the crib, put several cloth diapers (prefolds) on top of that, and let them nap like that. I can usually see some improvement by the end of the nap.
Change them every hour and sooner if needed- any urine against the skin for even five minutes will make the pain and irritation worse.
Coconut oil can be a great barrier, but straight zinc oxide is good too, for when they DO have to have a diaper on. But really, naked as much as possible, extra yogurt in the diet, acidophilus directly on the bottom, seem to be the keys for all of ours. And we still have a refill of nystatin always waiting for our youngest.
