Herpes Vs. Yeast Infection?
I believed myself to have herpes about a month ago when some of the symptoms fit those of the virus. Itching, burning, irritation, tiny bumps, a cut (I do shave down there and am sometimes bad at it), and discharge. I don’t recall a distinct smell.
However, I just recently remembered that I had used a yeast infection anti-fungal treatment on the affected area and it caused the irritation, itching, burning, swelling, etc, to go down. After using the treatment for 2-3 days the symptoms went away almost completely.
I’m still getting STD testing because I am sexually active. But I wanted to know if this sounds like I really just had a yeast infection, or if it’s possible it was still herpes and the treatment just helps those symptoms as well?
Yeast infections (candidiasis) causes the itching and reddness but also discharge. The discharge is clumpy, cottage cheese consistency. Usually odorless. That is usually the tell-tale sign.
Herpes usually presents as raised clear fluid filled bumps. Usually in clusters. If you shave, if should be different than razor burn, in the sense that razor burn doesnt usually show up in clusters.
However, I would suggest you see your doctor, or a MD specializing in STDs or epidemiology. The reason is that they have the up-to-date info and treatment options.
